La Trans-Germany es una carrera que atraviesa parte de la región bavara del sur de Alemania, para adentrarse en los bonitos parajes del tirol austríaco en cuatro etapas que recorren cerca de 275 kilómetros, con un exigente desnivel de 8500 metros, con salida en Sonthofen, atravesando la localidad alemana de Pfronten, Leemos y Seefeld –éstas dos últimas austríacas–, para luego culminar en Garmish–Partenkirchen.
El año pasado, en la quinta edición de la Craft Bike Trans-Germany, el suizo Christoph Sauser, después de atravesar los 324 kilómetros de pista en poco más de once horas, obtuvo su segunda victoria consecutiva en la prueba: “Quería ganar de nuevo. No hubiese estado satisfecho con la segunda posición tras haber ganado la pasada temporada”, declaró. Más tarde, agregó: “¡Es increíble! Me encantan las carreras por etapas. Ganar una prueba, de más de un día de competición, es muy meritorio”.
A poco más de un mes para que dé comienzo la sexta edición de la prueba austro-germana, todas las miradas están puestas en el propio Sauser, quien intentará buscar el triplete e inscribir su nombre en los anales de la Trans-Germany. Después de haber obtenido la victoria en las ediciones de 2010 y 2011 -en esta última, aventajó en un minuto al excampeón de bike-maratón, Alban Lakta, y a un Markus Kaufmann que ocupó el tercer lugar del podio-, Sauser – que además de las dos victorias cosechadas en las dos últimas ediciones, es el corredor que más etapas a conquistado–, intentará demostrar que continua siendo el más rápido en recorrer los 275 kilómetros de la prueba. A día de hoy, las miradas están localizadas sobre el suizo que a priori es el gran favorito para la edición de este año que se celebrará entre los días 6 y 9 de junio.
A la espera de lo que ocurra en la próxima edición, Sauser ha declarado recientemente: “Para mí, la edición de este año es un gran desafío y un verdadero reto. Voy a intentar ser el más rápido y convertirme en el primer corredor que consigue tres victorias consecutivas. Me estoy preparando muy duro. Sería una gran alegría volver a triunfar en las distintas etapas de las Trans-Germany 2012”.

Already at the last Trans Germany the first stage was the most demanding one and it will get even tougher. The start over the Imberger Horn will be on the same course like in 2011. The track to Bad Hindeland continues on new trails past Wertach on the most challenging ramp of the whole course in direction Buronhütte and Jungholz. This is the place where the wheat will separate from the chaff. From the enclave Jungholz, just like last year, the course will take the bikers over the Edelsberg all the way to the finish in Pfronten.

The second stage remains the same, and honestly there is nothing to improve. With the vast kingdom of heaven after the start in Pfronten, the appealing round trip at the Tannheimer valley and the freeride track in Lermoss in the end, it can´t get any better than that.

Like last year the bikers start off over the Tuflalm along the Panoramaweg back to the outskirts of the town Lermoss all the way to Ehrwald. Over the Ehrwalder Alm, once again the highest point of the whole course, the bikers ride to Gaistal. Only this time they will leave Gaistal on a very picturesque route consisting of rooty forest roads towards Seefeld. The last kilometers are full of little ramps on a high plateau, who will give the bikers the opportunity to attack but are also very demanding. We get exciting mountain biking on a different terrain, amazing landscapes which surrounds the 2662 meter high mountain peak of Hohen Munde, looking over Seefeld.

The last stage is a fierce battle from the beginning! It goes straight up the steep hill to the top of the Gschwandtkopf and then all the way to the top of the Brunschkopf – the two hilltops embedding Seefeld. At Brunschkopf there is an exciting trail waiting for the bikers – technical riders will be having a lot of fun. The landscape presents itself from the most beautiful side, there is a fantastic view from the Brunschkopf panorama all the way to the Zugsitz-peak. From the Wildmoos See, depending on the water level a sparkling lake, the course takes the riders on the Bike Trail Tirol which is full of little climbs to Leutach. This is where the new route connects to the 2011 course from Mittenwald and Elmau to Partnachalm over Garmisch. A route, which would add some more altitude difference on top of the course before Garmisch is still waiting to pass the test. Surprise, surprise.
